It all started when…

Jeannie Kim came to San Francisco at the age of 12 with her family from Korea to start a new life with possibilities and hope. She went through school and has always been a part of family restaurant businesses but decided to go get her B.A. in Biblical Studies and later received a Master of Divinity to become an ordained minister serving the greater church. It was her mission to help children and adults find a safe space where they can receive acceptance, compassion and love. She has worked in many churches working with young children, youth, and adults with special interest in pastoral care and counseling with Christian Education.

While she and the Church enjoyed tremendous growth, family obligations pulled her back to the Bay Area in 2005. She was pressed into taking over a family business to make ends meet as a single mother caring for her 3 young children while she remained active in Ministry. She changed the name of the restaurant to SAMS, initials of her 3 children - Samuel, Abigail, and Micah. Not having any business background, she operated a restaurant business like a church, caring for people and building relationships to become a beacon in the community.

Over the past 15 years Jeannie’s leadership has transformed SAMS American eatery from a small breakfast restaurant to an award winning 4-4.5 Star establishment and a “go to” choice for government officials and leaderships, theatre goers, essential workers, and tourists looking for a quick lunch or just a place to respite and what some Bay Area food critics have called the best place for theatre goers to eat before curtains at the Orpheum Theatre and other show venues.

SAMS continues to serve classic breakfast, lunch, and dinner with international flair that reflects the diverse culture of Bay Area.
